Rugby

Rugby is one of the most celebrated sporting disciplines at King’s College, Budo, forming an important part of the school’s proud sporting tradition. The Budo Rugby team, popularly known as the Red Lions, has consistently demonstrated determination, teamwork, discipline and competitive excellence in school rugby. The team participates in major competitions including the USSSA Rugby 15s Championships, regional rugby leagues and other national school tournaments. Over the years, Budo has faced and overcome strong opponents, producing exciting matches and memorable victories that have strengthened the school’s reputation in Ugandan school rugby.

The Red Lions have enjoyed remarkable success in recent years, winning the USSSA Rugby 15s national championship three consecutive times in 2023, 2024 and 2025. In the 2025 final, Budo defeated Namilyango College 14–13 to retain the national title. The team has also won the National Schools Rugby League five times, while its 2025 Central Region Under-20 Schools Rugby League victory, following a 29–17 win over Namilyango College, marked another important achievement. These trophies and victories reflect the commitment of the players, coaches, sports department and the entire Budo community. Through rugby, students develop physical fitness, leadership, resilience, teamwork and a strong sense of school pride, continuing the proud legacy of the Budo Red Lions.
