Hockey is one of the prominent games played at King’s College, Budo, providing students with an opportunity to develop their sporting talent while building teamwork, discipline, fitness and confidence. The school has both boys’ and girls’ hockey teams, which regularly train and compete in inter-school, regional and national competitions. Through hockey, students develop skills such as ball control, passing, tackling, positioning and strategic play, while learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Budo has enjoyed notable success in hockey. In the 2025 National Secondary School competitions in Bukedea, the boys’ team finished 6th out of 13 schools, while the girls’ team finished 7th out of 12. In 2024, Budo’s girls made history by winning the Kampala Hockey Club Schools’ Festival, their first triumph in the competition, with Elizabeth Nampanga also finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with three goals. The boys’ team had previously won the festival in 2023, demonstrating Budo’s strong and growing tradition in school hockey.
Hockey at Budo continues to nurture talented players while promoting physical fitness, resilience, leadership and a strong sense of school pride. The sport remains an important part of the College’s commitment to developing well-rounded students who can excel both on the field and in the classroom.
