Founded on March 29, 1906, King's College Budo stands as a testament to visionary leadership and educational excellence. Our school has shaped generations of leaders who have gone on to serve at the highest levels of society.
Royal Connection
The school was founded on land generously donated by the Kabaka of Buganda and was initially established to educate the sons of chiefs and royalty. It is the only school in Uganda to count among its former students three former Heads of State and several reigning kings.
This unique royal connection remains an integral part of our identity, reflecting the school's original mission to prepare young leaders for service to both their communities and the nation.
Pioneer of Education
King's College Budo was one of the first centers for higher education in the country and became the first mixed-sex institution of higher learning in Uganda when it admitted girls in 1934.
This pioneering spirit has continued throughout our history, with the school consistently setting standards for academic excellence and character development across East Africa.
The "Old Budonians" Network
The alumni association is one of the oldest in Uganda, boasting a highly influential list of graduates who have served at the highest levels of politics, academia, law, and diplomacy in Uganda and across East Africa.
From cabinet ministers to supreme court judges, from university vice-chancellors to captains of industry, Old Budonians have distinguished themselves in every field of endeavor, carrying forward the school's motto: "Gakyali Mabaga" (So little done, so much more to do).
Our Enduring Legacy
For over 118 years, King's College Budo has maintained its commitment to holistic education, producing leaders of integrity who have shaped the destiny of our nation and beyond. Our history is not just a record of the past—it is a living tradition that continues to inspire excellence in every generation of Budonians.
